Employee Benefits

UX Analysis

As the UX Lead for Equitable’s Employee Benefits (EB) team, I was responsible for designing user interfaces and interaction flows across multiple platforms supporting proposal, amendment, and renewal workflows (PAR), group onboarding, and administrative functions. These tools served as front-ends to large financial databases and were critical to the day-to-day operations of internal teams and external clients.

Tools and Process

Tools: Figma, Axure RP, Photoshop, Illustrator, UserTesting.com
Process: Agile, collaborative design reviews, stakeholder walkthroughs, remote usability sessions

Key Contributions

UI & Visual Design

Developed standards-compliant UI designs using Equitable’s design system. While the visual language remained consistent across platforms, I tailored each design to the unique needs of the tool’s functionality and users.

Workflow Mapping

Partnered with business SMEs to translate their domain knowledge and draft mockups into cohesive, user-centered interfaces. I formalized informal concepts into clear interaction flows and user journeys to ensure coverage of all scenarios and handoffs.

Agile Integration

Embedded within the Agile team to align UX tasks with sprint timelines. This included proactively advocating for UX stories and ensuring design had sufficient time and visibility within the development cycle.

Usability Testing

For internal-facing tools, I conducted informal usability studies using interactive prototypes and observed end-users as they completed common tasks. For external-facing workflows, I leveraged UserTesting.com to recruit participants who matched target customer personas, enabling broader validation of user behavior and design assumptions.

PAR (Policy Amendments) System

Developed interactive prototypes that helped stakeholders visualize multi-role handoffs. Resulted in smoother alignment and timely design approval.

Onboarding Workflow Redesign

Led a UX audit and redesign of the benefits onboarding interface. Following implementation, customer support tickets for onboarding-related issues decreased by nearly 80%.

Design System Standards

Improved consistency and user trust across EB tools by ensuring visual alignment with the broader Equitable design system.
